Self Evaluation of My Academic Year (2009)

The present evaluation is a history about my academic year in sociology of University of Chile on 2009.
This year was very complicated because I have to study many subjects and many teories about society and differents elements.
This text has content: all subjects belong to academic semester and their difficulties; easiness; my appreciation about the way to make all subjects, their many authors to go trought; the quantity of written test, oral test and exam. Finally I want to tell you how I feel when I study this discipline and what things and elements I learn in this University.

My academic year was complicated. I have five subjects in the first semester and six in the second. I devoted to study four teories in the year: Teory Three, Five, Four and Six. Teory Three is most complicated of all, in this subject I studied three authors: Jurguen Habermas, Niklass Luhmann and Pierre Borudieu. The authors has generals teories about to operation of society in the world. I had one written test for each author and finally I gived oral exam at the head of teachers and two assistant professor. I felt terrible, the head was to exploit me. The situation was horrible but I give a good exam and I was the person more happy of the world.
Others subjects were to make lighter, Theory Four was a subject of inequality. I saw and read twelve authors that to reform to Karl Marx and his theory. My perception to the subject is positive, very interesting and useful to understand the world.
Subjects belong to first and second semester are sociology of culture, two subjects to investigate (Taller one and two), and the subject to relate to politics public. The last subject to divide: the first part is Politics Public and the second part is Evaluation to Politics Publics. The big subject is very useful to work in the government.

This year was very interesting. I learned elements very useful to be sociologist and to understand the society. I`m happy with this discipline, but sometimes I didn`t want to study because authors were difficult to understand and I cried because I didn`t understand the main idea of author. I believe that this year is the most difficult and I studied many hours all weeks. Finally, I will finish the discipline because it`s not long till to end the subjects. I will try to study like year 2009 because I get good mark and I passed all subjects belong to sociology.

Challenges in your discipline

In my discipline there were many challenges:

Technology: this word means advanced machinery to service the humanity.

The challenge of sociology to relate technology is: to use machines for welfare of humans, the technology should be to serve society. Humans can to utilize all information technology to increase solution of socials matters. For example, poor people needs water services in our country, this matter to be resolved to expand technology tool.

Others matters to be resolved the technology are: poverty in areas of country, this matters can be resolved to building houses for all chileans with advanced machinery.

Social Matters: Mistakes or bad elements in society harmful to many persons.

There are matters like poverty, unhealthy people, thiefs. All things to happend because mistakes in the system. This mistakes were caused for dominant persons to repeat failures since beginning of world.

The sociolgy study all failures and solutions for all mistakes of system. The discipline has many subjects to teach teory a practices. The subject "politics publics" is very complete to give solution to social matters.

Education: this element is the key to have a better world. If people to receive complete education with teachers devoted to students the all level`s education, children and young devoted to learn more elements to live in society and parents devoted to be happy wit their family; the society will be calm tomorrow. Today the eduaction isnt good for all people, only some people have excelent education.

A Piece of News

Comment on a piece of news you have recently heard of, read in the paper, or watched on TV
I watched on TV: A student killed his classmate in classroom. He stubed a knife in his neck. The new is very horrible, the boy killed other boy, because he kissed his girlfriend.

Where did it occur?
The succes occured in Santiago, in classroom of high school. In the place there are many students and children, they are in break and the succes happened.

What was remarkable, shocking, surprising, etc about it?
The succes was shocking. it`s impossible that a student killed in his high shool. Today nobody has respect to nobody, high school is place to study and play with friends. It isn`t place to see bad things. The children follow the example always and in society we don`t teach this things.

Who and How many people were involved in it?
There were a killer boy and the victim (other boy, his classmate), the girlfriend of the killer, children in the high school, teachers of the high school and staff. The families of the boys, the polices entered to place and they taked the killer boy, a doctor, ambulance to carried the dead to hospital.

How will this piece of news affect your community, city, country,etc? Why?
This piece of news will affect Santiago because the authority will make politics publics to intervene the family of killer boy, in the high school, and in the city because the authority to security of persons.

What piece of news would you like to hear, read or watch on TV ? Why?
I would like to watch on TV a piece of news about to improve the school, university and high school. I would like that Chile is the better country with educaction to all chileans. All schools are tecnology and good infraestrcuture. And all universities to for goods professionals.

Improving your Faculty Facilities

1. What is the current situation in your faculty?

Today in my faculty there are many new elements that before there weren´t. These things are very important to students, teachers and staff who belong to faculty. These things are bathroom with toilette paper and soap. Three computer classroom (before the faculty had only one computer classroom), and cleaning ladies in the bathroom.

2. What things need improvement?
The faculty needs improvement the library because it´s very small for many students of four disciplines. Then the library need more books because many books is in others faculties.
The cafeteria is very small too, it has few chairs and tables for many students.

3. What would be your first steps to dealing with this situation?
Firt step to dealing this situacion is:to speak with the boss and to explain the problems, to ask money to improve the library and cafeteria. Then to look for goods persons to make the work.

4. How would you resolve this situation?
I would resolve this situacion with a letter to rector of University of Chile to would explain that the faculty socials sciences needs more economics elements to improve many things no complete. I would speak that my faculty is poor if we look other faculties of University of Chile.

5. What could be the real benefits/impact of these improvements?
The real benefits of these improvements are : students happy with big library and new cafeteria with more space, and more variety of foods. Works student`s more complete with excelent elements.

My recommendations are: the students should to look for spaces to speak about elements to improve in the university space and they should to ask help to autorities of faculty.

Election Day

Yes, I`m registered to vote. I wanted to vote in 2005 to Michelle Bachelet`s election.
I liked the big idea: A woman president in Chile. I registered in May 2005 with all my friends in San Felipe.

I don`t like the electoral campaings because the politicians speak many beautifull things that people want to hear, but I think the politicians are laiers, they look for to have people happy.

I think that a person for president must have qualities like honestly, to be a good person with values, to be good parent, a good student, inteligent, to speak many lenguajes.

I never consider to became politician because I think the politicians are bad, I don`t trust their ideas, they are thiefs with the money of State. They don´t interesting for the people, only the power.

I like to work in "Department of the Interior", because I like to desing public politics to help to people poor areas, people without education school, with drugs and traffic problems.

Five problems in our country are: drugs dealing in many places of Santiago and regions like north of Chile; poor areas without water and foods, they live in the streets. Many thiefs in the streets, they are desperate for money to get drugs. Children without school eductacion. Finally I think that a problem very important is the unhealthy life style of chileans.

Carbon emissions will fall 3% due to recession, say world energy analysts


The gas emissions will drop 3 por cent in 2009 because the world financial crisis. This reduction is very long and is result

Criminal Laws

Yes, the capital punishment is a good solution to reduce criminality because a thief doesn`t have any possibility to steal or to do the crime again. If one person wants to steal or to kill, the person should to think better before to do bad action.

The pro in capital punishment is a good form to avoid bad actions in the society because the people are afraid for death. Other pro of capital punishment is that it reduces the people in the jails.
The cons of capital punishment is that if a justice to mistake with the thief or killer, the people applying the capital punishment would to kill a wrong people.

The government should to take measures like to recruit more police office in places of Santiago with high criminality. These places are San Bernardo, La Pintana and Puente Alto.

In my opinion the origin of increasing criminality are little jobs for poor people, no presence of socials networks and little education in population.

I was victim of burglary in San Felipe, my hometown. The thief ran with my bag and my mobile phone. The crime was 100 meters of the police. They weren`t nothing because didn`t see the thief. I cried all evening and my mum bought me other mobile phone.

What to do and where to go in Santiago

What places should a foreigner tourist visit in Stgo? What things should a foreigner tourist do?

I think that foreign tourists should visit the city of Santiago in the palace where the president works, called “La Moneda”. In “The Moneda” are many beatiful sculptures and garden with oranges.

The central market is other nice place to visit and eat Chilean food. In this place you can eat delicious dishes such "empanadas", brochettes called “anticuchos”, “carbonada” which is a soup with meat, potatoes and italian squash, “sopaipillas”, this is kind of cake with pumpkin.

Other good idea, you can go to Santa Lucía hill because it has a beautiful castle on top where you can see most of Santiago city.

MIM museum is another good option for learning about science and technology in an entertaining way.

Top 5 places to visit in Santiago

1. La Piojera: good place to take the classic "earthquake" a sweet alcoholic beverage."The piojera" is beside the central market, you come by metro "cal y canto", climb the stairs and enter the local.

2. Central Market is a great place to eat typical Chilean dishes. To reach this place you must follow the same route as to go to "The Piojera"

3. The "Moneda" is the palace where he works the president and some ministers. It has a museum in the basement with many elements typical Chilean. To visit the "Moneda" you get to the underground station bearing the same name of the palace.

4. Virgin´s hill, excellent place to enjoy a landscape full of grass and animals.You can be reached by car or take the subway and get off at station "baquedano" or "Pedro de Valdivia".

5.Natural History Museum Natural History Museum contains a park, several museums and a beautiful lagoon that can be appreciated. If you want to visit this place takes the subway station and go to the "quinta normal", the ticket cost two dollars.

Theme : A country you would like to visit

I like to travel to Australia, when I was small always felt curius about this country. Summer temperatures are very high, the beaches are beatiful, people enjoy in the woods with kagaroos and koalas. I would like everything and be part of this world.

Australia is very large country, one of the biggest on the world. Australia with others countries form the continent´s smallest planet. This country has varied and extreme climate and monarchy and parliamentary system. Australia has a strong presence of asian and hispanic inmigrants.

Australia stands out globally for the number of sports and and number of outstanding athletes who inhabit this place.

I like to go to study english and improve it at high level for to go to anywhere in the world and I understand to others persons.

I never learned english in school and in the university I had no time to learn it.

I love walking along the beaches and historical sites of Australia, and I go to visit to my relatives living in this country.

First Term: Good and Bad Points

In my first term I had very demanding and entertaining subjects: sociology of culture, a subject dedicated to art; sociological theory III and IV dedicated to review many authors who wrote about general theories of the society and public policy dedicated to teach about projects for the country.

In the first term I didn´t do any sports because I was very bussy with the sociology studies. My free activities were saw movies, in special suspense movies and love movies. I read many books about science fiction, suspense and art cinema. I went to the parties all fridays on term in the University and others places like streets Bellavista, Suecia and Manuel Montt.

I had many challenges in my first term. My first challenge was to approve all the sociology subjects and I approved all subjects. The second challenge was to do driving courses but I didn´t it because I did not have enough time and money. My third challenge was to ate healthy food and I changed my eating habits.

In the first term I traveled with my mother and brother to Frutillar in the south of Chile. We went to the Llanquihue lake, Chiloe Island, and many cities like Puerto Montt, Puerto Varas, Osorno and Valdivia. We had a very good time, the vacations were wonderfull. I hope to repeat this trip.
